Missouri tipped minimum wage (2026)

How Missouri compares

At $7.50/hr, Missouri ranks 13th of the 47 states with a single published tipped cash wage. No other state pays tipped workers exactly $7.50/hr.

Tips have to cover 50% of your $15.00/hr minimum here. On a shift where they don't, the shortfall is your employer's to pay — but only if you can show what you actually made.

Thirty hours on the schedule guarantees $225.00 before tips, $161.10 more than the same week would guarantee under the federal $2.13 floor.

Nearest rates on either side: Maine at $7.55 and Vermont at $7.21.

Cross a border and the base wage changes: Illinois ($9.00) pays more than Missouri. The widest gap is Illinois, $1.50/hr higher — $45.00 a week on a 30-hour schedule, for the same job.

What's different about tipped work in Missouri

Missouri caps the tip credit at 50% of the minimum wage, so the tipped cash wage tracks the full wage automatically — it went to $7.50 the same day the minimum reached $15.00.

Where it's heading: Proposition A passed with about 58% of the vote in November 2024 and carried the minimum to $13.75 in 2025 and $15.00 on January 1, 2026. In July 2025 the legislature kept those two raises but repealed the inflation indexing that was supposed to follow, so $15.00 is where it stops until lawmakers or voters act again.

The number that actually matters

Official wage tables lean on reported pay and miss most cash tips, so your real hourly — cash plus card, minus tip-out — lives only in your own records. That's the number that tells you whether a shift was worth it, and the one you'll need at tax time.

Federal tipped minimum cash wage is $2.13/hr — but many states require more, and if tips don't bring you to the full minimum wage ($7.25 federal), your employer must make up the difference. Enter your state's tipped minimum as the base wage for an accurate number.

Quick answers

What is the tipped minimum wage in Missouri?+
